Trusting God

Trusting that God’s plans are better than mine is a daily battle. A few years ago, I was moving to a new city and my dog, Zoey was asleep on the seat next to me. I heard God say “Look at Zoey. She doesn’t know where she’s going or what’s happening, but she’s in the presence of her master and she knows that she’s going to be ok. She loves car rides more than anything, but sometimes she has to go places that aren’t fun for her (like the groomers and the vet) but you, as her owner, know that this is important to her long-term health and happiness. I want you to learn a lesson from Zoey and when I say “Go” you need to trust that I’m leading you somewhere good (not necessarily fun). So enjoy the ride and rest like Zoey.” In our journey of faith, one of the most profound lessons we learn is the importance of trusting God in all circumstances. Life’s challenges often tempt us to rely on our own strength or understanding, but the Bible repeatedly encourages us to place our trust in the Lord. Let’s reflect on three powerful verses that illuminate the beauty and necessity of trusting God wholeheartedly.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

This verse reminds us that trusting God involves surrendering our limited understanding and leaning on His infinite wisdom. When we trust God wholeheartedly, acknowledging His sovereignty in every aspect of our lives, He promises to guide us along straight paths. Despite life’s twists and turns, we can find peace knowing that God is directing our steps.

Isaiah 41:10 (NIV): “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

In moments of uncertainty or fear, God assures us of His presence and support. Trusting God means believing in His faithfulness to provide strength and assistance when we need it most. When we face challenges that seem insurmountable, we can find comfort in knowing that God’s mighty hand upholds us, guiding us through every trial.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV): “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Trusting God involves believing in His good intentions for our lives, even when circumstances suggest otherwise. God’s plans for us are filled with hope and promise, leading us toward a future filled with blessings. When we trust in His divine plan, we can release our worries and anxieties, knowing that God is working all things together for our ultimate good.

  1. Where have you seen Gods good intention in your life in ways that you didn’t expect?
  2. When was a time that God didn’t answer a prayer the way you wanted, what helped you to learn to trust him through that?
  3. In what areas of your life do you struggle the most to trust God, and how can you lean on Him more fully in those areas?
