I was running late for an appointment the other day, traffic was terrible, and every light seemed to turn red just as I approached. I could feel myself getting tense, my hands gripping the steering wheel a little too tightly. I muttered under my breath, wishing I could just speed up time.
Then I remembered “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14)
I paused, took a deep breath, and whispered a quick prayer. Instead of focusing on the red lights and the honking cars, I started noticing little things: a neighbor jogging with her dog, the warm sun on my arm, a song I love playing on the radio.
I got where I was going, a few minutes late, but I felt calmer and more present than I had in days. God doesn’t always remove the traffic, the delays, or the stress—but He can quiet our hearts in the middle of it. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need to get through the day.
