Positive Thoughts
Everyone can think of some “Mom-isms”. You know… those things that your mom would tell you over and over and you’d roll your eyes and ignore her. My mom’s personal favorite was “trash in trash out”. She used to tell me that the things I let my eyes see and what I let my ears hear would become what I think and speak about. I didn’t believe her until I started battling depression in high school. She suggested that I should start paying attention to my surroundings and if it’s not a positive movie or song maybe I should pass on it. I gave it a try and within a week I started noticing a change with how I felt. In a world filled with uncertainties and challenges, maintaining a positive mindset can be a daunting task. Yet, as believers, we are called to dwell on what is good, pure, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). Our thoughts hold immense power, shaping our attitudes, actions, and ultimately, our destinies. Let ‘s dive into the Scriptures to discover the profound significance of fostering positive thoughts in our lives.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
The apostle Paul exhorts believers to intentionally focus their minds on virtuous and uplifting thoughts. By fixating on the noble, pure, and praiseworthy aspects of life, we guard our hearts against negativity and despair. Positive thoughts serve as a beacon of hope, guiding us through life’s darkest valleys and illuminating the path to joy and contentment.
Proverbs 23:7 “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
The book of Proverbs reveals the profound connection between our thoughts and our reality. Our innermost beliefs and perceptions shape our outward demeanor and actions. Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Renewing our minds is essential for spiritual growth and discerning God’s will. The world bombards us with messages of doubt, fear, and inadequacy, seeking to ensnare us in its web of negativity. However, by immersing ourselves in God’s Word and meditating on His promises, we undergo a transformative process. Our perspectives align with His truth, enabling us to navigate life with confidence and clarity.
