Renewing Your Mind: Embracing a new soundtrack for your life

First off let’s start with Gods word:

1. Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
2. 2 Corinthians 10:5 – “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Ok, hear me out “Interstellar” may have the greatest film score of all time. I mean that soundtrack takes that movie to a level that would be impossible to get without a moving peice of music that aligns your emotions with the cinematography. Right?? Ok you probably aren’t reading this to know my favorite movie of all time, but heres where I’m going. Every good story has a good soundtrack.

In my life I’ve discovered two different soundtracks playing in my head. One was rough, lonely, and pretty bleak. The story of my life was, strive for affirmation, perform your way to perfect, and ultimately finding pretending only left me empty and heartbroken. If I could give it a title it would be called “lost”. I remember thinking to myself, “if this is life, this truly just sucks.” Then I found a new song. Better yet it found me. The moment I heard the Gospel clearly for the first time it felt like seeing light for the first time. Everything inside my head and heart needed to respond. That’s when my soundtrack changed. I’ve been singing a new song ever since. found redemption in my Freedom Hymn.

In my walk with Jesus, one of the most transformative aspects of the journey has been the process of replacing the old soundtrack, the renewing of my mind. It’s the learning a the new song so you can sing along part of the walk with Jesus. This process is crucial for understanding and living out the freedom that Christ offers. Our mentality—how we think and perceive the world—plays a significant role in how we experience and express our freedom. I still remember what the old song sounds like and as beautiful as the new anthem is, it takes work to sync to the new rhythms of my freedom hymn.

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are set free from the power of sin and death. I’ve found that living out this freedom is a daily journey of transformation. Romans 12:2 urges us not to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by renewing our minds. This renewal happens as we align our thoughts and perspectives with God’s truth and His Word. The thing is, a lot of us are singing the same old song of condemnation over our life even though we have accepted Jesus as our savior. That’s like watching an award winning   movie with the soundtrack muted! We are missing the fullness of the whole picture. If that’s you, You need a different song. I too was born singing a song of separation desperate for love, comfort, and healing. And when Jesus takes over your life he becomes the answer to all things we’ve been looking for. He doesn’t just fix our mess and leave, He teaches us a new way, He gives us a new anthem to sing over our life and it can transform our mind completely. The song of freedom and redemption changes everything.

1. How has your thinking been shaped by the old soundtrack to your life?
2. Can you identify patterns of your past that Jesus came to renew, restore, or abolish that you’re still living by?
3. What would it look like to replace your old song of bondage with the new life Jesus offers us?

Our mentality affects every aspect of our lives—our decisions, relationships, and responses to challenges. It influences how we perceive ourselves and others. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to think differently—aligned with God’s perspective and His will for our lives.

In 2 Corinthians 10:5, Paul instructs us to take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ. This means actively discerning and challenging thoughts that are contrary to God’s Word. It involves surrendering our doubts, fears, and that pesky soundtrack of condemnation to Jesus and allowing His truth to shape our minds.

Renewing our minds is switching the soundtrack of your life and it involves intentional effort and a reliance on the Holy Spirit’s guidance. It requires us to immerse ourselves in Scripture, prayer, and fellowship with other believers who can encourage and challenge us in our faith journey. I want to encourage you that this journey of living to a new beat is something every believer is walking out. You are not alone in your transformational journey. So keep the faith and let’s commit to the new soundtrack, it’s even better than “Interstellar!” This soundtrack is the one you will be singing and living your life to not just for now but for Eternity.

As you meditate on these truths, consider how you can cultivate a mindset that reflects the freedom and truth of Christ. Allow His Word to really transform your thoughts and actions, guiding you towards a deeper understanding of His will and a richer experience of His freedom. it’s time to embrace your freedom hymn friends.
