The Truth About Valentine’s Day

the-truth-about-valentines-dayIt’s Valentine’s Day again, the day that celebrates and idolizes love and romance. This can be a rough day for many regardless of relationship status. Some will pretend they don’t want or need a significant other. Others think that buying nice gifts or going out for a fancy dinner is overrated. The day may go well until there is a quiet moment alone. Sadness and emptiness creep in and the desire for true love surfaces.

During this time we need to be reminded of God’s love for us. He loves us and always will – unconditionally. We should be blown away by this fact. We are a rebellious people, but God still sent his son to this broken world. He did that in order to free us from the mess we are in. While we were still sinners, He died for us as a substitute to take on the consequences we deserve. He did that so we could have a personal relationship with him. How about that for love?

We often gloss over God’s love for us as if it’s something he has to do, not something he wants to do, but when you have Christ in your life, you are accepted as a son or daughter. As family. FAMILY! He desires this relationship, loves us as a father, and wants us to be co-heirs with him.

Take a moment and think about His love. You are never alone; God always loves you and desires to be your Father. Rest in the truth that the Creator of the universe wants to be involved in your life. When you feel alone or unloved, consider spending time in the Word and in prayer with your Father in heaven.
