More Like You

“If I’m going to be more of anything, God, I want to be more like you.”

I’ve loved singing along with those words from Aaron Cole on The River. It’s a prayer I’ve prayed many times, too! Becoming a little more like Jesus every day is always the goal. I’ve learned, though, trying to be more like Jesus doesn’t always look the way I think it will.

On his Instagram, Aaron shared the reminder that in trying to be like Jesus, a lot of times it might actually look like you’re losing. Think about the moment when Jesus went to the cross—to the world, it probably looked like Jesus had lost. But now we know God’s plan was in motion the whole time. I’m reminded that in praying to be more like Jesus, you have to be prepared for what might come with that answered prayer. It may look different than what you thought and it may not be easy, but it will be worth it.

James 1: 2-4 says, “Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.”
