JP’s Thoughts

Dear Kyle McCord,

In the words of Shaquille O’Neal “I owe you an apology. I wasn’t really familiar with your game.”

Don’t take that as me saying I didn’t think Kyle was a talented QB, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think he would struggle to walk into an environment like Notre Dame and be able to handle it and shine the way he did.

I would think that way for most of the collegiate level QB’s. It’s a tough place to walk into as the enemy.

What he was able to do that night, especially in the final 1:26 of regulation, will forever be enshrined in Buckeye football.

It was magical.

McCord silenced the haters, and showed the promise us Buckeye fans were hopeful to see. A Leader.

It takes a rare breed to be able to accomplish what he was able to achieve on a crisp Saturday night in South Bend, IN.

It’s a night I won’t forget anytime soon.

Let’s get it 6!

O-H!

Jace’s Thoughts

The person responsible for the sudden surge of confidence in Kyle McCord isn’t Kyle McCord.

It’s Chip Trayanum.

Imagine for a moment that Ohio State gets stonewalled on the final play of the game.
Everything else stays the same. McCord has the exact same performance.
The only difference is Trayanum can’t gain that final yard.

The performance by McCord would be seen as good. An encouraging performance.
But without Trayanum scoring, McCord’s performance would be forgettable.

Going 21/37 for 0 TDs would never be seen as sensational.
Columbus wouldn’t be suddenly drooling over a 57% completion rate.

The sudden infatuation with McCord is prisoner of the emotional moment.
This offense managed 17 points against Notre Dame.
For context: Central Michigan put up the exact same point total.

Even that final drive was, uh, something.
McCord is Jekyll and Hyde. Occasional dimes with a whole lot of yikes.
Convincing yourself otherwise is fandom at its finest.
