Acting Like a Child Isn’t So Bad After All

acting-like-a-child-courage-wildAs a kid you were pre-loaded with courage to do some pretty wild things— draw on the walls, cut our own hair or try the taste of dirt. After we’re reprimanded time and time again we finally get the hint that those activities are not acceptable.

We age, we fall in line and do what we’re told. Our adventurous pizazz slowly fades and we’re not as bold as we once were.  BUT, what if we still allowed our inner child to come out to play sometimes?  What’s the worst that could happen?

As my son is living out his ‘exploration phase,’ the adult side of me wants to keep him from making a mess and hurting himself, but isn’t that how they learn and grow?  I mean, obviously he won’t be playing with sharp knives or jumping off of the refrigerator, but testing boundaries and getting his hands dirty is what feeds the soul sometimes.  I don’t necessarily want to go make mud pies, but the urge to make a snow angel or eat candy for breakfast has crossed my mind.  As for you, maybe you need to give in to that inner child from time to time to come alive again.

I’ll race you to the playground!
