JP’s Thoughts

Breathe in…

Breathe out…

Relaaaax.

It was one game, the first game of the year, on the road, against a Big Ten opponent.

And we won.

It wasn’t flashy, but a win doesn’t need to be flashy to still be a win.

Let’s not overreact to one game.

The defense was exceptional, Marvin Harrison and Emeka Egbuka will still be who we all know they are.

McCord will get comfortable.

It will be okay.

Youngstown State is up next.

The best thing about being 1-0…

Jace’s Thoughts

Last week, I wrote that Kyle McCord being “mid” was probably an overreaction.

Boy, was I wrong.

First game of the year? Sure.
But let’s not forget that it’s the first game of the year against Indiana.
Who, in the most technical of terms, is what experts call “butt.”

At the end of the day, it’s not about having kinks to work out.
It’s only getting the ball to MHJ twice. It’s only finding Egbuka three times.
And while Cade Stover had a nice game, most of that was one chunk play.

Thank goodness that Indiana has a horrific offense.
Indiana with Jack Tuttle – now a Michigan transfer – makes it a game late into the fourth.
Couple that with AJ Barner – also now at Michigan – and it could’ve been a nightmare.

In a surprising reversal of roles, the defense shined while the offense struggled.
And I really do expect that to balance out.

Ohio State’s offense is better than they looked on Saturday.
Ohio State’s defense is certainly not as good as Indiana made them out to be.

Still.

Struggling to score on an awful Indiana defense isn’t a great sign for the future.

This week against Youngstown State, many of the issues will look fixed.
Ohio State will cruise to a 50-something point victory.
This isn’t the defending FCS champion or anything like that.
*shudders*

But if for any reason this team doesn’t dominate front to back on Saturday?

Buckle up.

The echoes are waking – and waiting – in South Bend.
